Cover Story

Hi, my friends. I hope you are all doing well. I want to share with you a purchase I made from a small store I enjoy visiting, Fergy’s  Unique Images.  I like this store so much because I can usually find all sorts of treasures to add to my accessories wardrobe and to my home decor. My latest find was a magazine clutch. The only decision left for me to make after I first spotted a shelf full of the clutches was which one to purchase. I am one of those people who still like to purchase print media so I anticipate receiving my subscriptions to Vogue, In Style, Harpers Bazaar and a multitude of others. As a result, it was not immediately easy for me to decide which clutch bag I wanted. The choice was between purchasing a clutch bag with a Harper’s Bazaar cover photo or the clutch based on a Vogue. I was so indecisive about it that the store owner asked me if I wanted to trade the magazine clutch with the Vogue Cover for the clutch with the Harper’s Bazaar cover. Finally, after my mother weighed in about how much I love Vogue I knew I had made the right decision.
Of course, now I want to return to the store to purchase another magazine clutch. I guess I have the cover story fever. It is fitting after all.  At the age of 11, my fascination with fashion began as a result of my first sight of rows upon rows of fashion magazines that occupied a section of the magazines section in the library. I spent hours flipping through the pages of what still remain as some of my favorite fashion magazines. It was the magazine covers that drew me in to the world of fashion and to this day they continue to do so. It is the covers of the magazines that we see first, after all, so the cover photo and issue topics had better be good. Am I right? I am sure you will understand how lust-worthy I feel my handbag is after viewing the clutches below.

My magazine clutch is an item that I know I will be treasure year after year.  A lady knows when she has found a fashion item she will love forever. Am I right, my friends? It is the type of piece that regardless of whether it is in fashion or not I will continue to love just as I did when I first saw it.  My bag is not exactly a magazine clutch based on a vintage issue like the one Carrie Bradshaw toted around in a Sex and the City episode; however, it is a keeper all the same and will undoubtedly remain in my style rotation for years to come.  Patricia Fields, the famed stylist of Sex and the City fame made these bags popular again during the show’s heyday but since then they consistently come back into fashion just like, some of the best and I will admit some of the worst, trends do.

Did you know that the magazine clutch bag was invented during the 1970s in Italy to hide valuables in plain sight? What started out as a security measure has certainly come along way, has it not? The handbags below may prove my case, and if not, perhaps the fact that celebrities, bloggers and other stylish ladies think that a magazine clutch is a brilliant wardrobe choice will prove my point.

What do you think of magazine clutch bags? Please share your thoughts with me.

Now that I have purchased my first magazine clutch I am eager to begin the hunt to find some based on vintage magazine covers. Wish me luck. I know where I am going to begin my search. Do you? If, like me, you have the cover story fever etsy and ebay are certainly great places to start your hunt. If you know of others, I would certainly appreciate it if you share them.

Thanks to all of my devoted followers for their support. If you are not a follower but you like what you have read here I hope you share this post, return for future visits and/or leave a comment.

  10. I also have a magazine clutch. I purchased mine from a vintage store near my home. I like the feel of it but it doesn't hold much. I'm debating on giving it to a friend who admired it at a party. I remember their popularity in the late 70s early 80s.

    1. Hi, Glenda:

The downside of clutch bags is that they certainly don't hold much. They are so cute though. I usually end up using my clutch bags more for special occasions since they are not practical to carry everyday. I am so glad to hear from you.
