Hello, my
dear friends. I hope you are doing well and had a great weekend. I had the
pleasure of attending a fashion show, Aquatica, this past weekend in St.
Charles, Missouri in the U.S., at the invitation of Streetscape Magazine. If you have
attended a fashion show you know how much fun they can be. I am so thrilled
that I was able to attend. It was a wonderful experience. I extend my thanks to
the Streetscape team for the invitation. Unfortunately, the photos I took did
not come out well due to what I refer to as lighting interference; i.e. the
runway lighting prevented my photos from coming out well. If I somehow manage
to salvage a few of the photos from the show I will share them with you in an
upcoming post.
This week
I want to share with you a new fashion artist on the international scene,
Silvina Maestro. Silvina has a very impressive fashion design pedigree. She graduated with honors from renowned design school Central Saint Martins, worked with Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy, interned and freelanced with the late Alexander McQueen and worked with Emilio de la Morena. Both Vogue Italia and the New York Times consider her as an emerging talent.
I became aware of Silvina Maestro's design work as a result of an invite I received from Wowcracy, an organization that specializes in shining the spotlight on up and coming fashion talent that they have scouted across the globe. Wowcracy recently selected me as a fashion blogger to watch. I am honored and excited to have early access to collections that emerging designers are preparing to launch. Because of the recognition by Wowcracy I now have the opportunity to introduce to you collections by up and coming designers such as Silvina Maestro. I plan to continue to share with you designs from emerging artists as a result of joining Wowcracy’s platform.

There are
multiple artists affiliated with Wowcracy that I could have elected to blog
about. It was initially a challenge, as a result, to choose just one designer
to spotlight. I decided to select Silvina Maestro because the source of the inspiration for her current collection, “Theorema”, really struck a chord with
me. The collection is essentially inspired by the Egyptian philosopher Hypathia
or as she is sometimes referenced, Hypatia.
I became an admirer of Hypathia after seeing the film, Teorema, which is based on a particularly strife-filled time in Hypathia’s life. Hypathia expressed and taught her scientific views despite knowing that her views were vastly unpopular. Hypathia loved the field of math, as well. It is more than likely she acquired her love of math from her father, Theon, a mathematician and head of the Museum of Alexandria, known as the Mouseion. The photos below are of actress Rachel Weisz in the role of Hypathia in the film Teorema.
Hypathia’s
views were in opposition to most of the views of others during her time. Unfortunately,
the public expression of her views resulted in a tragedy; the loss of her life. As someone whom has always admired
independent and strong woman her story really touched me. After reading about
Silvina’s affinity for Hypathia, as well, I was immediately propelled to blog
about her collection which consists of extremely elegant dresses and separates.
The collection is a beautiful representation of Hypathia’s love of math. As you
view several images of apparel in the collection, think of the variety of mathematical figures you learned of in
school. I am sure you will recognize many of these figures as you gaze upon the
silhouettes and drape of the clothing in the collection.

Also,
consider the colors of the clothing in the collection. Silvina focused on gold,
white, blue and black because they represent the divine, enlightenment,
religion and darkness. Some of these concepts were a focus of the
film while others are very reflective of what is currently happening across the globe in a variety of societies. Silvina’s collection is certainly ambitious which I could not
help but admire.
Please share your thoughts about the images from the collection that I have featured here. The structure of the clothing ranges from a representation of basic shapes to shapes that are more complex. It is my hope that you were able to see the relationship between fashion, math and science as represented by Silvina Maestro's collection.
Don't forget to let your voice be heard. I love to receive comments and look forward to them so much.
I leave you now with additional images from Silvina's collection. Items from the collection are available online for pre-order. Please contact me by e-mail should you have any questions. Note: All of the images from Silvina Maestro's collection are courtesy of Wowcracy.

I think it is vital to support new designers since it is so difficult for them to get their brands noticed. Thank you, as always, for being so supportive of my blogging efforts.
