The Boots I Hate to Love - Styling Tips

As promised in my post on December 10th, I have compiled over-the-knee boot styling tips. Several factors should be considered when wearing over-the-knee boots. Let's face it, you can either create a good impression when wearing them or a very wrong impression. There is usually not a middle ground with these statement-making boots. I have decided, because they are monopolizing the footwear scene this fall, to create a best practices guide. I have discovered that, as long as I follow certain ground rules, over-the-knee boots don't have to be the boots I hate to love. I hope you find the tips useful and that you choose to share them.

I would be remiss if I did not also provide suggestions about what to avoid when building an outfit that includes over-the-knee boots:

  • Keep the patent leather over-the-knee boots at home during the day.
  • Refrain from wearing fitted mini-skirts with over-the-knee boots to avoid a look that is too provocative.
  • Be cautious when wearing bold-colored over-the-knee boots, such as red, if you are self-conscious about your legs. Bold colors tend to visually enlarge an area of the body.
I welcome comments. If you have additional tips you would like to add please share them. Until next time, be stylish!

  1. I love seeing people wearing over-the-knee boots, but I am not ready to try them out yet! I totally agree with you, pairing them with fitted mini skirts can deliver the wrong message, not always but most of the times. I love when people wear them with chunky, oversize sweater, it makes the outfit look so effortless and chic at the same time! Interesting tips. I would probably invest in black or nude colour first, just to get used to the idea of wearing them! One of my favourite looks is also the casual one, skinny jeans and over-the-knee boots are such a great combination! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and for your lovely comment!

  2. Great choice of pictures! I love them all :)

  3. Ahh, this is fabulous. I just love over the knee boots but you are so right, if not worn carefully they can go horribly wrong!

  4. my love for over the knee boots! <3

  5. Amazing post! So great:)

  6. Thanks for the tips. I'd love to wear high knee boots- these might even work out for me but over-the-knee just don't go with my petite size ;)
