The Charm of a Bag

Source

I try not to miss an opportunity to add some extra charm to my bags which explains my current obsession with the furry Bag Bugs that ladies are using to accessorize their Fendi bags. They are very striking; although, not what I would describe as cute, in any way.

When I saw the first Bag Bug I did not quite know what to think of it.  I can only describe my initial reaction as somewhere between shock and fascination. Many have recovered from the surprise and awe they experienced based on the number of individuals that tote these charms around their town.

The handbags we choose to add to our wardrobes are charming on their own, of course, but add a whimsical touch and a bag can really become…well…more than just a bag.  Bag Bug charms are not fetching to me but they are certainly interesting.  Sometimes that is all I need to take my bag to the next level. of course, you can always add a bag, flats or clutch from the Fendi Bag Bug collection to your fashion stash with the right amount of coin.

Charms of many types, some of the furry persuasion and some not, have been used for many decades to enhance a bag. I can honestly state, however, that even with my admittedly wild imagination it never occurred to me that one day a ball of fur and leather would be a charming touch to add to a bag. I suppose it is not all that different from those whom would not leave their house without attaching a rabbit’s foot key chain to their bags decades ago. I was not a fan of the rabbit’s foot key chain but the idea of attaching a good luck charm to a prized possession is certainly appealing.

Fashionistas, such as Victoria Beckham and Kendall Jenner, have also been known to attach a fox tail key chain to their bags. This fashion phenomenon became popular a few years ago and is still a favorite accessory to attach to luxury handbags. I will admit, that upon seeing a fox tail key chain attached to so many gorgeous handbags, there is a distinct cuteness to the partnership between handbag and fox tail key chain but, again, just like the rabbit’s foot key chain that particular trend was not quite my cup of tea.

I tend to favor more subtle, yet glamorous, accessories as partners for my bags which is the reason I like to, on occasion, add a silk scarf to the handles of my handbags. I love the effortless elegance scarves can add to a handbag. Yes, I am among the ladies whom love their scarves. Oh, the versatility of a scarf. They are accessories for the neckline, the hair and so much more. Is it any wonder that ladies, such as I, can’t resist dressing up our bags with them?

I have a strong compulsion to seek out a couple of the bag charms I acquired years ago so that I may renew my love fest with them. One is a lovely turquoise-colored crystal butterfly charm and the other is a charm made of attached shells and earth-toned faux gem stones. Both are attached to key chains, of course. I can’t say exactly why but I think Bag Bug charms may have something to do with my renewed interest in bag charms.

I simply had to prove to myself that I can enhance the natural charm of my bags with a more appealing and affordable alternative than a Bag Bug charm. Hmmm...maybe the Sophie Hulme charms below are the answer.

The more I think of it the more I have a strong need to go find my bag charms. My bags don’t know it yet but they are about to get paired with some unexpected partners.

My friends, how do you add extra charm to your bags? I eagerly await your responses. Your feedback always inspires me.

  2. Hi Sharon! Interesting trend. While I like the idea of bag charms, I am very much on the fence about these fury ones. I much prefer charms that are a bit more glamorous. I like your idea of adding a silk scarf or crystal charm...I love anything sparkly! Thanks for sharing this trend. As always, I totally enjoyed reading!

    1. Hi, Keisha:

I don't like all furry charms either. It really depends on whether they are real or faux. I could not purchase a real rabbit's foot or fox tail. I just would not feel right about that. I do like the Sophie Hulme charms. They are really cute. I am so glad to hear from you.

  3. Its cute, the Karl Fendi charm but personally I could do without it just like the louis vuitton fox tail.

    1. I think some of the furry charms are just too out there for me; particularly, the fox tail charm. I also don't care for rabbit's foot charms either. Your viewpoint means so much. I enjoy reading the perspectives of my fellow bloggers.

I think that maybe is this kind of trends that you are not sure if you accept or not but you see it everywhere and finally you dump on it.

  5. These bags are amazing! It's one of those trends that can either stick for a bit or disappear next season, but it's so cute & if someone dresses head-to-toe black, this is a great way to add a little purse punch for an outfit.

    So many pretty photos!

    1. Aren't they insane? I love the bags but the bag bug charms are not my favorite. Currently, the bag bug collection is still popular. It will be interesting to see if the fad fades this year. It is always great to read your perception of the trends, Cristina.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Jon. These bag bugs are rather a hot topic. It seems that they are either loved or hated. I think the love-hate relationship with garments and accessories makes fashion the art that it truly is.

    1. They are not to everyone's preference for sure, Aleksandra. I just like the Fendi bags but not the Fendi charms. They do garner a lot of attention though. I have seen so many street style stars carrying them in NYFW photos. I suppose they are still very popular right now.
