Fall for Capes

Dsquared2 AW14

I am in a love affair with capes and I don’t think I’ll get over it soon. Have you ever been love struck by a fashion item so much that it becomes almost obsessive? I don’t know what it is but I am really fixated. If you follow my blog and/or had the opportunity to read my global style post I am sure you know by now that garments I am attracted to typically have a long history of adoption by many cultures. I am sure by now that you are aware that I never stated I was a one-style kind-of-girl. It should come as no surprise then that I am championing the cape; a garment that I have always associated with a sophisticated effortlessness.

The one thing to me that is so very important when it comes to wearing a cape is that they usually speak for themselves. In other words, there is no need to under layer them with too many statement-making pieces. It seems to me that they already have a majestic quality about them. Why pile on more? I am just not comfortable with the pile-it-on philosophy of dressing. I really love the fact that capes look superb with the most minimalist of looks. A silk top, leather pants, booties and a fedora are all I need when I rock my cape. What do you like to pair your capes with when you step out? The pairing options are endless as demonstrated by the ladies below:

Capes, historically, were used to partially protect the wearer from the elements but not entirely. Many capes do not entirely obscure the outfit beneath the cape. Isn’t that part of their appeal? They are a charming mix of practical and glamorous. Why completely cover your outfit when you don’t have to? Coats are more functional than capes but let’s face it they do have an annoying tendency to hide the rest of your outfit, don’t they? That is okay of course when it is freezing outside but during early or mid-autumn why not occasionally swap a coat with a cape? If you need more convincing take a further look at how much a cape can enhance an outfit.

Of course, I could not resist including Burberry and Burberry Prorsum capes in this post. They are the best of the best when it comes to capes. As a consequence, my dear friends, because of my everlasting love for the Burberry brand I was compelled to include images from their arsenal of outerwear. I am sure you recognize them as they seem to be a common wardrobe item of fashionistas fortunate enough to afford or be gifted with one or two or more. Here are a few runway looks and street style looks. Aren't they the cat's meow? I sure think so.

Don’t forget to leave a comment and follow me if you like. I bid you goodbye, for now, but leave with you further proof that capes can be quite addictive. How do you feel about capes? Are they a chic, yet worthy, way to truly keep away the chill OR are they at the bottom of your list of ways to keep yourself toasty?

    1. That could be it, Glenda. I have certain types of garments I like on others too but not on myself. Maybe, you will find the right cape for you one day but if not, knowing you, I am sure you have plenty of other chic outerwear that matches best with your style.

  3. Hola Sharon!

    1. Glad you like the post. I just have always had such fond memories of capes. There is a definite reason as to why they keep coming back into popularity. It is wonderful that they can be incorporated into the outfits of women of all age demographics. I also love that unlike some trendy garments that are suited more towards those whom have a certain type of figure capes look great on one and all.
