Christian Dior Resort 2015 |
Hello, my friends, I’m back and
this time my thoughts have turned to summer vacation. This is the time of year when
I compare what I typically wear during summer vacation versus what I would wear
if I had a much larger clothing budget. It is time for the fantasizing to begin
my friends. I have plenty to fantasize about since a multitude of resort
collections and lookbooks have been released by illustrious fashion houses. As
usual, however, some collections left me befuddled while others just proved
that they truly understand what real people wear when they vacation. Some collections made me say, "What is Happening?" while others made me say, "Please, may I have some more." I will let you decide which looks fizzle and which looks sizzle. All runway and lookbook images in this post are credited to Style.com.

Alexander Wang Resort 2015:
To be clear, when I think
of going on a resort trip, traveling to a cold weather spot isn’t going to be
anywhere on my vacation hot spot list; therefore, let’s agree to picture me
flying to some tropical locale. I don’t long for colder climates EVEN when it
is hot and humid outside. Since I have clarified that very important point, let
me just state that my idea of a resort vacation and that of others may widely
differ for that reason. I suppose that can explain the reason so many coats, winter sweaters and
fur shrugs were featured so heavily in resort collections. I know it gets cool
at night in many places but if I have to take a coat on summer vacation there
is a problem, unless for some fortunate reason I could wear the coats from Burberry Prorsum's collection. I do understand, however,
that vacations do not take place only in warm climates. I have pushed aside my
egocentric thoughts and embraced that fact. I have, therefore, included looks
from resort wear collections that will have something to appeal to those of you
whom prefer the warmth as I do but also for those of you who long for the cold. Please feast your gaze, below, on additional looks from Resort 2015 collections.
Milly Resort 2015:
Resort wear has evolved
significantly since its origination which is completely understandable since
some destinations remain in paradise mode year round. After all, for those whom
have the necessary bank roll a resort is a figurative hop, skip and a jump away
whatever chilly climate they reside in. I may not be a hop, skip and a jump
away from a resort due to my limited budget but I can certainly dress like I am;
although, this will mostly be by using clothes I already have while adding in a
few longed-for items. Below are just a few of what I consider to be lust-worthy pieces. Oh, if only I would win the lottery.
Alice + Olivia Resort 2015:
Altuzarra Resort 2015:
Derek Lam Resort 2015:
Philip Lim 3.1 Resort 2015:
Prabal Gurung Resort 2015:
Just remember, the key to staying cool at a hot weather destination lies in the fabric make-up of garments. Breathable fabrics such as silk, linen, cotton blends, microfibers and the like should be among your BFFs during hot weather months. If you are going on vacation I am sure after chillaxing in the hotel, bungalow or cabin you will want to hit the hot spots at your destination without looking like you are wilting. Clothing made out of the fabrics I previously referenced can merely be taken out of the suitcase, lightly shaken out and tossed on (except for linen clothing for which a good steaming will be needed).
Below is a list of
must-have items I simply would not be able to leave home without if I were
going on vacation. Who says a lady can't look cool when it is hot out? Look the list over and let me know what you would pack for
your warm-weather destination vacation.
·
A kimono (because I have to get my boho fix in).
·
A sunhat (The huge kind)
·
Lace shorts (They go with everything from
t-shirts to blouses).
·
A bright colored-blouse (in one of 2014’s top
colors of summer: cobalt blue or orange).
·
A graphic t-shirt (Do I really need to explain?
Who doesn’t love a graphic t?)
·
A skort (This hybrid garment is a fashion do for
me; not a fashion don’t.)
·
A couple of sunglasses (You know, if you follow
me, that I could not leave home without my shades.)
·
A playsuit/romper (I think these adult onesies
are adorable.)
·
A jumpsuit (Who doesn’t love a one-piece? They
make for easy dressing and see above.)
·
A pair of gladiator sandals (The flat-heeled
sandals; not the ones with heels.)
·
A maxi dress (Yes, I am short but I know how to
make them work for my height: heels)
·
A pair of high-heel sandals (because I need a
lift on many occasions).
·
A white button-down shirt (for obvious reasons).
·
A pair of white jeans (I know I have to keep
them pristine but they are just so chic).
·
A pair of slip-ons (My attraction to slip-ons
has grown since my slip-ons post. Note: I have yet to find that perfect red pair. Send
me a note if you have some ideas).
·
A clutch bag (They add a glamorous touch to any
look.)
·
A bucket bag (because I think they are the
official bag of summer).
·
A retro swimsuit (because I am going through a
phase.)
Perhaps, there are items
on your list that are not on my summer hits’ list. I hope you share those items
with me. Come on, let me know what I’m missing. Is my list a hit or a miss? I’m
waiting. Before you say goodbye, here's a peek at some of my favorite Resort 2015 collections:

Until next time, my stylish
darlings, have a great week.

My idea of a resort vacation is basking in the warm sunshine, either poolside or ocean, or on the lido deck of a fabulous cruise ship. I, too, was a bit thrown off by the "resort" collections. They seemed to be more pre - fall. But like you mentioned, everyone's idea of vacation doesn't take place during summer. I fell in love with the Gucci collection and am currently adding pieces to my wardrobe to create the look for less.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Thank you, Glenda, for always sharing your thoughts about my posts. I realty appreciate the time you take to provide detailed feedback. I think several of the collections were more suited to pre-fall and somewhat had me bewildered. I saw a documentary recently on Frida Giannini and the House of Gucci. She is really an intriguing and talented woman. I love where she is taking the House of Gucci and can not wait to see more designs from her.

ReplyDeletewow! This takes major commitment to do this all on your own. I have to do it for work sometime, and it's really fun but more stressful when you have a deadline!

Thank you so much, Caroline. It absolutely does take a commitment which is the reason I only post about once a week; however, I always want the focus of my blog to be about producing quality posts. I will definitely visit your blog.

Wow, super selection of garments!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit tired Resort Collections always look the same... As you said, it's like only warm weather existed on this season, and almost everything I see year after year is white tailored pants and stripped blouses and T-shirts on replay.
Thanks for the comment on my blog, see ya!

I loved the Milly and Just Cavalli collections! Your list of must-haves was perfect. Kimonos are a must this summer. You can never go wrong with rompers, jumpsuits and maxi-dresses. I've slowly grown to love midi-skirts and the ones in the Burberry Prorsum collection are amazing!

Who's Worn What
Hi, Brittany:
DeleteI really like Cavalli's snakeprints. He incorporates them into his designs in such a captivating way. Milly's collection is fun and fresh. It took awhile for the midi-skirt trend to appeal to me too. Burberry Prorsum is my favorite design house. I love just about everything they put out each season.
