Versace SS14 |
Are you a cat eye or round-rimmed sunglasses kind of lady?
Perhaps, you have decided to embrace both types of eye-candy this spring and
summer. Both of these retro styles are sharing
the spotlight now. I tend to be more about the glamour so naturally am drawn
more to the cat eye shades than the round-rimmed shades but as with many things
fashion-oriented I refuse to neglect one over the other.
Round-rimmed sunglasses were the shades of choice for rock
stars in the 1960s and 1970s. As a consequence, they are naturally cool and
hip. So you see, in my opinion, in the
battle royale between cat eye and round-rimmed shades there is no clear winner.
I may just swap one style for the other all season long. I can equate it to being
forced to choose between my spiked patent red leather pumps and my red and
white polka-dot cork heels. When you have two superb options, why not let both
get some time in the sunshine?
Of course, one could always wear the oversized shades, known
as Jackie Os, that have been at the top of the popular sunglasses chart for
many seasons. If they were good enough for Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis
to wear and Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada they are assuredly the crème
de la crème of sunglasses, right?

Wayfarers too are always a dependable choice. They always
remind me of the movie Risky Business; one of Tom Cruise early film career
roles. They actually played a pivotal role in that film. If you have not seen
the movie it was quite a fun film to watch, in my opinion. I also remember how
much Madonna was attached to Wayfarers in the 1980s. They continue to remain a popular sunglasses’
choice among celebrities today both off and on screen.
Perhaps, neither cat eye or wayfarer sunglasses are your cup
of tea. If so, you can still look stylish this season without reaching for a
retro-inspired pair of shades. Just grab a pair with mirrored lenses and as
fast as you can say abracadabra your shades will give you a look that is simply
magical. Mirrored lenses have a vibe that just glares look at how hip and
happening I am. I think I just convinced myself to add mirrored sunglasses to
my must-haves’ list along with cat eye shades this season. Style stars from bloggers to celebrities are sporting them. What do you think? Do they deserve a thumbs up or a thumbs down?
Oh, wait. I simply must add a new pair of aviator sunglasses
to my style file. They are, after all, despite my avid interest in other styles
my favorite type of shades. I have loved them since they made such a memorable
appearance in the movie Top Gun. If you follow me you know how much of a connection I think there is between movies and fashion; two of my loves. I learned long ago that much of my interest in fashion has been prompted by the transformative impact fashionable apparel and accessories has on a films characters or vice versa. Is it the character that rocks the fashion or the fashion that makes certain characters irresistible?
A lady doesn’t always have to limit herself to just one
purchase at a time right? Somehow, I think I will soon be on the hunt for new
sunglasses to add to my current stockpile. One can never have too many
sunglasses, in my opinion. Just take a look at the fashionistas on the busy streets below. I dare you to choose just one favorite sunglass look. I bet you can't do it. Ok, maybe you can, but I can't.
I suppose before I conclude, I should give homage to other
types of sunglasses If you are into
sports or into just looking like you are, a sporty pair of sunglasses may
appeal to you. Do sunglasses with lenses that taper at the temples appeal to
you? If so, sporty sunglasses may be just your type.
There are even shield sunglasses, which by the way I think
are spectacular. I first became acquainted with them as a child while watching
skiers tackle the ski slopes during the Winter Olympics. I also associate them
with the type of sunglasses people used to wear a few decades ago after having
cataract surgery. I am so glad they are so much cooler now. The modern styles can
make a lady look fierce and fabulous.

I also must not forget the appeal of clubmaster sunglasses.
If you like your shades with a thick top frame along the brow line maybe they belong
in your style file.
There are also many more geometric-shaped sunglasses
available that I have not even addressed but a lady has to stop somewhere,
right? I will just briefly mention that square, pentagon and butterfly lenses are
also a possibility. If either shape floats your boat, seek and you will find as
the saying goes. Maybe you already own a pair. If so, I would love to hear from
you. What attracted you to your geometric beauties?
If the lenses shield your eyes from excessive UVA and UVB rays it
really doesn’t matter which type of sunglasses you use to protect your eyes
from those rays does it, darling?
Each type of frame has something to commend them don’t they?
Maybe, I can help. Choose a pair, or two
or three or more, with the type of frame that complements your facial shape.
The end game is to look enticing while you have fun in the sun. Take a cue from the below catwalk looks and find a pair that is your perfect style and face shape match.

Tips for Choosing a
Flattering Pair Based on Your Facial Shape:
·
Oval-shaped face: You are in luck because most
frame shapes suit your face.
·
Heart-shaped face: Sunglasses that add width to
the bottom of your face like a pair of oval-lensed aviators or oversized-shades
are your perfect match. The key is to make sure the glasses don’t sit too high
and wide on your face.
·
Square-shaped face: Round-rimmed sunglasses or those
with oval lenses are your perfect match.
·
Round face: Angular and horizontal frames suit
your face shape. Clubmaster sunglasses are a great match for your face shape
because of the thick frame at the brow line.
What type of eye-candy are you going to choose to keep your
peepers safe from the sun’s glare this season? I look forward to your comments
and hope you keep them coming. I bid you adieu, for now, with more sunglass looks.

Thanks so much for your comment, Elle. Oversized sunglasses are so chic. I have a hard time choosing between sunglasses as you probably know from reading this post. There are just so many different styles I love and with my facial shape I, fortunately, can be versatile with the styles I wear.

They are absolutely fabulous. I always equate them with the origination of the bohemian culture. I absolutely love how modern they have become. My favorite round sunglasses were those worn by Rihanna at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show a couple of years ago. I was in total amazement.

I agree with you about experimenting. I am a proponent of expressing oneself through one's own style preferences. Maybe that is why I love so many different sunglass styles. I am so glad you visited. Thanks so much for your comment. I will definitely check out your blog post.

I can't choose either. I love so many styles and I enjoy trying new styles so I just can't resist the mirrored lense sunglasses that are so popular right now. They are just so cool. I will never forego my aviators though.

Funny how I was telling myself there is no hope when it comes to finding a frame that suits me. But, my dear friend pointed out, I should go for a cat-eye to compliment my natural face shape! Lovely selection of photographs. :D
